Adopt-A-Project: Savoy UMC partners with empty tomb’s home maintenance department in repairing spiritual lives and homes free in the name of Jesus Christ. Homeowners contact empty tomb for help in repairing their homes. Savoy UMC has participated in many projects including building a deck, putting on a roof, laying a kitchen floor, rebuilding a home after significant water damage, and painting a kitchen. These projects were done to help individuals and families who had no other way of making the repairs. Volunteers repair the homes with a servant’s heart and they also introduce people to Jesus. We want these families to know that God loves them and that He sends his people to help. Volunteers are always welcome. For more information on the next work day, contact the church office. Grocery Deliveries: Savoy UMC also partners with empty tomb to deliver a weeks worth of groceries to a family or individual at least twice a month. As in the adopt-a-project or any mission, the main goal is to show the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Often this mission develops into more than delivering food as volunteers take time to get to know the recipients. Volunteers are needed for this ongoing mission project. Clark-Lindsey: The kids at the Zone (Sunday morning children’s program) have adopted the residents at this nursing home. They visit and deliver Valentines, Easter baskets, and cards to the residents periodically. Relay For Life: Savoy UMC participates in other community events throughout the year. We will be forming a team to participate in the Relay for Life, which raises money and awareness for cancer research. More information can be found on the relay web site www.champaignrelay.org, or the church office. Overflow shelter: Partnering Against Homelessness is a joint effort between TIMES Center, Restoration Urban Ministries, First Presbyterian Church, and Savoy United Methodist Church. The TIMES Center provides shelter for homeless men during the winter months. From January 2nd thru April 15th (weather dependent), each church takes turns hosting an overflow shelter for a week. When the TIMES Center reaches their capacity, but there are still men needing shelter for the evening, the center can send the additional men to host church for the night. Volunteers from the community are always welcome. Thanksgiving Baskets: Each November, volunteers from Savoy UMC deliver baskets with a Thanksgiving meal to area families. Last November 55 baskets were delivered. Christmas Gifts For Cunningham Children’s Home: Each November members of Savoy UMC collect gifts to give to children at Cunningham Children’s Home during the month of December. Angel Tree: The kids who participate in J.A.M. (Wednesday night children’s program) are given names of kids who have a parent in prison. The children and their families buy presents for these children in their parents name and also host a Christmas party. Mitten Tree: During December members of Savoy UMC collect winter outer wear for Restoration Urban Ministries, empty tomb, and Salt & Light.
