Food Pantry

Savoy UMC partners with empty tomb to deliver a weeks worth of groceries to families in need  As with any mission, the main goal is to show the love and grace of Jesus Christ.   Often this mission develops into more than delivering food as volunteers take time to get to know the recipients.  Volunteers are needed for this ongoing mission project.

The pantry is open to church family on the 2nd Friday morning of each month, and we welcome referrals to community members who might need some assistance.

Canteen Run:

We are called Partnering Against Homelessness. We are several churches that have came together in response to banding in unity to do anything we can to help the homeless community in our area.

We offer this help through, what we call, the Canteen Run. In cooperation with the Salvation Army, we take their canteen truck throughout downtown Champaign-Urbana with the sole purpose of offering food, drinks, information, articles of clothing, blankets, information about agencies that can help them, and prayers to anyone we meet on the streets who needs it. Salvation Army supplies the truck, and through Salvation Army and local churches they supply the food and clothing that we will need. We also were able to get underwear from The United Way because of their "Undie 500" in May. Salt & Light also allows us to come and get some jackets and shirts. We get our volunteers through the churches and we have some guys from the Salvation Army help.

Relay For Life:

Savoy UMC participates in other community events throughout the year.  We will be forming a team to participate in the Relay for Life, which raises money and awareness for cancer research.  More information can be found on the relay web site www.champaignrelay.org, or the church office.

Thanksgiving Baskets:

Each November, volunteers from Savoy UMC deliver baskets with a Thanksgiving meal to area families.  Last November 55 baskets were delivered.

Christmas Gifts For Cunningham Children’s Home:

Each November members of Savoy UMC collect gifts to give to children at Cunningham Children’s Home during the month of December.

Mitten Tree:

During December members of Savoy UMC collect winter outer wear for Restoration Urban Ministries, empty tomb, and Salt & Light.
